Not all your world-building happens here, but this is where you show your readers what “normal” is for your characters. ‘The king died, and then the queen died of grief,’ is a plot. ‘The king died and then the queen died,’ is a story. A plot is also a narrative of events, the emphasis falling on causality. We have defined a story as a narrative of events arranged in their time-sequence. The mouse ate a cookie and then asked for a glass of milk is a plot because it’s causal.
